What Is Your no.1 Habit Holding You Back?

I have just come back from a weekend in Yamba, NSW at a Yoga Retreat with Sair from Yamba Yoga and Jo from makedoco. Yamba is a gorgeous little seaside village just over 3 hours south of Brisbane that I have been visiting annually during Summer for the last 5 years. But to escape mid year, on my own for some time out – was incredible.

 

All I can say is it was exactly what this working Mumma needed. A weekend of yoga, meditation, nourishing  food and time to sit and reflect on life.

 

It made me realise that like most females I spend too much of my time working or thinking about work, cooking, or thinking about cooking, cleaning or thinking about cleaning, washing or thinking about the piles of washing, etc. Always thinking about what needs doing and the list I have in my head that needs ticking off by the end of the day. I used to think this made me productive. I now realise it makes me unproductive.

 

It also makes me ‘busy’ all the time when really I yearn to sit on the floor with my gorgeous daughter and play with dolls or build blocks. It makes me yearn to have meaningful conversations with friends or family without doing the mopping while I have the handsfree set in. It makes me yearn to be able to sit peacefully and read a book or magazine without having to read the same page 5 times because I was thinking about something else as I was ‘reading’.

 

I know my life wont now suddenly be perfect where I put my phone away whenever Im with my family, or I sip on my tea first thing in the morning while reading my yoga magazine. But I do know that I want to make a change. I truly do. And when you truly want something, you will strive to get it.

 

So for me, this weekend has opened my eyes to the bad habits that played out in my life day in, day out, just because that’s what I have always done. And just by being aware of this, I believe that I will make some small changes to move more towards what I do want in life, and what I need to do to get me there.
