Are you simply making too many excuses?

So the time has come for me to hang my running shoes up – well it came about 2 weeks ago to be precise.

Let me tell you, I am not a marathon runner and I am by no means smashing any time records, but I do love going for a run. For me it’s the perfect way to raise a sweat, get some endorphins happening for the day, be toddler free and start the day feeling amazing.

These runs might be 20minutes or they might be 40minutes – that doesn’t worry me. What matters the most to me is the feeling I get when I’m out there, pounding the pavements as the first light is coming up. As the air is still fresh and I am in amazement that there aren’t hundreds of others doing the same thing at 5.30am in the middle of winter. It really does set me up for a great morning.

But alas – I am now 28wks pregnant with my 2nd child and some things just have to stop when you know its time.

Am I missing the running – absolutely – am I jealous when my amazing clients are smashing out sessions in the morning and improving their running time from week to week – absolutely – but I have found other things to take the place of running to keep me fit. Whether it’s pushing the pram and taking my Labrador/kelpie for a hilly long walk, taking 20minutes out on my yoga mat, hitting the cross trainer or going for a family bike ride on the weekend, I am still getting my exercise fix – just not running.

Which made me think… do the excuses that you are making up stop you from achieving your goals? Have you had thoughts recently that you ‘want to lose weight, want to tone up, want to fit back in to your bikini for summer, want more energy, want to give up soft drink, want to feel amazing, want to run around more with your kids’ – then what is stopping you?

Have you had these thoughts? But do you keep making excuses for not being able to achieve these goals?

Do you keep finding things to stop you going after these goals?

Well now is the time to stop. Now is the time to realise that you can have whatever goals you have been thinking about, if you just put your mind to it. I’m not saying its going to be easy, but its going to be simple. Its about grabbing that goal by the horns, being committed to it – 110% and finding your path to reach it.

That might involve a friend, it might involve a partner, it might involve a Personal Trainer, whatever it is, know that you absolutely, 100% can achieve your goals. You just need to stop making excuses.
